Collaborating Organizations:

Ramapo Valley Rotary Club in Sloatsburg, Rockland County New York kindly donated the funding for AIDSfreeAFRICA to buy a CURE KIT.

Robert "Bob" Prier took the opportunity and made his club the first Rotary club involved in a project that connected to Rotary Clubs on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. We also want to thank the many Rotary clubs that have donated money and in-kind over the past two years. We want to mention in particular outgoing Bronx Club President Taylor Eskew for a generous grant, club members Marguerite Chadwick-Juner for designing of eye-catching flyers and brochure for AIDSfreeAFRICA and Jim Romeo from High Speed Printing for his excellent and generous printing.

 African owned Start-ups:

The main mission of AIDSfreeAFRICA is to support people in Africa to built their own pharmaceutical production of essential generic drugs.

Diamond Pharmaceuticals was the first start-up AIDSfreeAFRICA supported. Support is given in form of expertise, technology and micro loans. AIDSfreeAFRICA currently put collaboration with Diamond Pharmaceuticals on hold due to serious integrity issues.

We are fortune to have intensified our collaboration with the Cameroonian Baptist Convention. They produce steril IV fluids, eye drops and ointments for internal use. They recently added drinking water/ bottling capabilities. Thanks in part to Hoffmann-La Roche Technology Transfer Initiative specialist Luc Schnitzler's advice we are sending a chemical engineer to help beefing up the facilities quality control and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice.

Dr. Gisele Etame is the majority shareholder and in charge of Genemark. This factory produces children's syroups to treat cough, malaria and fever/colds. This company wants to expand syrup production to keep up with demand and thereafter add solid oral drug tablet production. Hoffmann-La Roche is collaborating with Dr. Etame to produce second line AIDS treatment. We are supporting her efforts.

Meditech COO Armstrong Mbafong successfully created what took Diamond Pharmaceuticals five years to accomplish. Incredible energy, if he can keep it up he will do right by his name and become the "first man on the moon" the first to produce drugs. Supported by their UK partner NS Technomed and two pharmacists living currently in Italy and a crew at home in Cameroon.

Miconazole

Our collaboration with Tibotec, a pharmaceutical company with headquarter in Belgium is ongoing since 2006. Tibotec has generously made available an antifungal drug, called Miconazole or micMAT, that treats oral thrush, a painful condition affecting 25% of AIDS patients every year. Last year, with the help of a generous grant from Tibotec we were working on establishing a cost recovering non-profit distribution of the drug with the intend to expand it for all of central Africa. Unfortunately, the renewal of the drug license is holding up the project. Important, since this program creates jobs in Cameroon, the government has revealed its ineffectiveness and lack of interest for the well being of its citizens.

We are currently waiting for the government to renew the drug license for Miconazole which is the responsibility of the Cameroon Ministry of Public Health. If you are a hospital or approved AIDS treatment center in Cameroon and would like more information on how to purchase Miconazole as soon as it clears the government. Please write us to RRHodel@aol.com and we will forward your information to the proper contacts in Cameroon.

Please consider to call on your government officials and demand that the drug can be made available. It safes lives!

Swim Strong Foundation

_What do you do when the President of a swim foundation asked you to collaborate? You say YES and let things unfold. I am glad I said yes to Shawn Slevin's question that day still wondering what the hec that was supposed to be good for. Today we are friends, help each other out, refer and link each other and I gained respect for what The Swim Strong Foundation is doing to strengthen the self esteem of young people, giving them skills that are not written in day to day school circular. The picture shows a proto type of the foundations logo made by Imelda, the Cameroonian woman who makes our beautiful glass bead necklaces When Imelda made the bracelets for the Swim Strong Foundation she crafted a bridge between my swimming friend directly with Africa.  __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Westchester Coalition on Global Poverty and AIDS (WCGPA)

An effort to bring together diverse individuals and organizations around Westchester County to address the AIDS pandemic and poverty in the world's poorest countries.

In the summer of 2004, a coalition was started in an effort to rally the people of Westchester County in the fight against global AIDS and extreme poverty.  The coalition seeks to engage people throughout the county in these global concerns — in churches and synagogues, on the Internet and college campuses, at community meetings and concerts.  This is a diverse coalition working together in partnership to make a positive impact on the lives of people in need around the world.  WCGPA is supportive of the national ONE Campaign.  The coalition believes that by joining together in a unified effort we become more effective in addressing the emergency of AIDS and poverty in Africa and the world's poorest countries.
